WHY WE DO RABIES CLINICS

A current rabies vaccination for dogs and cats is mandated by state law. If animal owners do nothing else for their pet's health and welfare during the year, they must at least provide this vaccination. Noting that there have been several rabid animals in the area, including at least two cats, it's safe to say that this law has probably saved thousands of animals from infection with rabies, keeping our animal and human populations safe. That's the first reason we do the clinic.

The second is the information we give to our population of animal owners. While many people are careless with their pet's health care, many people simply cannot even afford their own health care, yet are loving owners of their animals. We are also providing clinic participants with a package of information on low cost animal services at shelters and clinics around the area. This helps people who keep animals to keep them healthy without going broke. And more importantly, it also helps to keep our population of animals healthy, and hopefully spayed and neutered, so that we don't end up with outbreaks of contagious disease, or more kittens and puppies than there are homes to adopt them.
