The Historical Society of Carnegie PA
Open 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 1 West Main Street
Tour the memorabilia including old yearbooks, school records and photographs of events in and around Carnegie all through its history. Especially visit Miniature Main Street, the handmade scale model of Carnegie in its heyday, and Honus Wagner memorabilia.

Caricature Artist Shawnelle Dodds
1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the street in the shade
A great keepsake for yourself or a gift for friends or family! Shawnelle has been a caricature artist at the Three Rivers Arts Festival for the past several years, and you’ll be fascinated as she creates a caricature of the person sitting right in front of her.

Children’s Creative Activities
Available 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts tent
The Carnegie Performing Arts Center and South Arts work together to entertain children with face painting, temporary tattoo art and arts and crafts activities including beaded jewelry and origami and the creation of a “paper crazy quilt” with hand-drawn pieces from participants.

Artist’s Flea Market
Open 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., South Arts Gallery at 37 West Main Street
Need a tube of oil paint or a drawing pad, brand new or gently used? Stop in to browse and buy what members of South Arts have cleaned out of their studios and contributed to the first Artist’s Flea Market in Carnegie!

Carnegie Writer’s Group Reading
7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at South Arts Gallery
Reading of recent works by members and visitors to the group including poetry, short stories and essays, read by the authors.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 10
Sock Hop on the Bridge!

7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the Main Street Bridge
Get your poodle skirts and saddle shoes and join the Historical Society of Carnegie—includes a dance contest and best-dressed prize!

SPECIAL SATURDAY ENVIRONMENTAL ESCAPADE!
Free Canoe Rides on Chartiers Creek
1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., under Mansfield Street Bridge
Even if you’ve never been in a canoe before, paddle up and down Chartiers Creek between the two bridges. Canoe and life preserver provided. Children must be accompanied by parent.
Take Your Chances in the 50/50 Ducky Races
Hourly between 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Sponsor a rubber ducky and hope it floats from one bridge to another before everyone else’s ducky so you win half of the ticket sales! Proceeds benefit the Chartiers Trail project in Carnegie.

CARNEGIE PAINTED IV

Carnegie Painted IV at 3rd Street Gallery
Awards given on Friday, September 10 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
3rd Street Gallery, 220 Third Street, Carnegie, PA
Artwork featuring sights and scenes of Carnegie by artists from all over the Pittsburgh area.
In conjunction with Carnegie’s annual Arts & Heritage Festival, “Carnegie Painted” gives visitors to the festival and to the town in general a view of the town they might not have seen as artists exhibit their impressions and renderings of Carnegie’s sights and scenes.

Underwritten for the second year by  

In addition to the best of show, second and third place awards, Carnegie Painted IV features four special awards sponsored by local persons and organizations:

Greenspace
Sponsored by the Chartiers Trail Organization, this award encourages artists to visit Carnegie’s green areas. The winning image will be printed on notecards to be used by Carnegie Renaissance and other businesses around Carnegie.
Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall
Sponsored by Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall, this award will be given to an image of an interior or exterior of the library or music hall or the grounds. The winning image will be printed on notecards to be used by both Carnegie Renaissance and by ACFL&MH to benefit their capital campaign, and may be used on promotional items for the benefit of the facility.
Carnegie Park
Sponsored by Dorothy Kelly, Carnegie boro council member and longtime fan of Carnegie Park, this award will be given for a painting of the park. The winning image will be printed on notecards to be used to thank donors to the newly-established Carnegie Park Memorial Fund and also by Carnegie Renaissance and other businesses around Carnegie.
Historical Society of Carnegie
Sponsored by Marcella McGrogan, president of the Historical Society, this award will be given to an image of the exterior of the historic Husler Building which houses the Society, and will be used on notecards, postcards and other promotional items to benefit the Society.
